When we left Santander, we had a short list of things we needed to fix asap. But, our boat had other plans:) When we entered Llanes, we had no power in the boat, no gas and no diesel. The marina was full but we just needed to fill our tank. Since the office was closed, we were not able to move from the diesel pump dock. We stayed at this dock overnight, and the next day we were able to fill diesel. We started filling our diesel tank, only to notice the the deisel had leaked to almost the entire cabin floor. There was diesel just beneath the floorboards. The packaging for the diesel tank lid was broken, so the diesel that was in the tank, just spilled out. We got a bill on 10 000 NOK…
We acted quickly with bailing out the diesel into watercans (which we learned later on was not a good soulotion). After removing all of the diesel we had to deepclean the whole boat, then filter all the diesel into new dieselcans. We learned that diesel should not be in normal water cans because they disolve the plastic. So we had 48 hours from when we filled the water cans, to sell the diesel or buy a lot (!) of diesel cans which was hard to get a hold of in a small town. We ended up filtering all the diesel with a huge diesel filtering machine that we were allowed to borrow from the marina. Then we sold almost all the disel to neighbour boats and people passing by. We quickly became «the talk of the town» and the diesel was sold in a short time.
After a lot of sweat, time and a some tears from me, we had a super clean boat! We can finally laugh about it:) Given the situasjon, we were actually pretty lucky. The marina was very helpful, we were «stuck» in a beautiful city and our boat got a deep clean.
